🐭 Rodent Recall (Prototype)

Retro puzzle-action with brains, blocks, and glitch cats.

Hi, my name is Alan. By day I’m a DevOps engineer, and by night I tinker with making games. I’ve been playing since the 1980s, and Rodent Recall is one of my first real projects, a short, fast-paced puzzle game built with a mix of human design and an AI coding assistant (Claude Code).

I’ve always loved short games that you can actually finish in one sitting. That’s the spirit of Rodent Recall: it’s quick to pick up, fun to master, and easy to come back to for speedruns or practice.

I’d love your feedback on the gameplay. If you had a magic wand, what would you change to make it more fun?

🎮 How to Play

  • Move: Arrow Keys / WASD (or swipe on mobile)

  • Trap Cats: Surround them on all four sides with blocks

  • Advance: Trap all cats to clear the level

  • Dev Mode: Press D on the title screen for Level Select (practice or speedrun routes)

🧱 Special Blocks

  • 🧊 Ice – Slides until it hits something; destroys cats on contact (+150 points)

  • 💣 TNT – Push three times to detonate; 3×3 blast, chain reactions possible

  • ⚡ Electric – Stuns adjacent enemies for 2 seconds when pushed

  • 🌀 Portal – Teleports blocks and enemies to the matching portal

🔋 Power-Ups

  • 💨 Speed Boost – Double movement speed (10s)

  • 👻 Ghost Mode – Pass through enemies (8s)

  • 💣 Bomb – Destroys surrounding blocks instantly

  • ❄️ Freeze – Freezes all enemies (5s)

  • ⭐ Super Skill – All effects at once (very rare)
